This certainly is not an exhaustive list of places to visit in the Isaans Region, but I have tried to show how varied are the attractions.

I am sorry that I have not included several Provinces, please do not think that they have nothing to offer - they all do have plenty - it is just that I have not yet had time to visit them all.

Places in Laos

I have put some thumbnails of interesting views or items for most of the places shown.

VIENTIENNE. Capital city of Laos old temples, markets and a lot of French influence in the buildings UDON THANI. A pleasnt city on the railway to the north, an hour from the Laos border UBONRAT DAM. A huge reservoir with resort facilities and excellent food. An hour's drive from Khon Kaen SRI CHIANG MAI. A quiet town with a view of Vientienne across the Mekhong. Look out for the topiary 'zoo' on the road from Nong Khai WAT SALA KAEW KOO. An interesting temple with Hindu influences and a huge park of Buddhist statues PHU RUA. A small town that has a big flower festival at the end of December PHUPAMARN NATIONAL PARK. A National Park between Khon Kaen and Loei PHU WIANG. An excellent dinosaur museum in the Khon Kaen Province PAK CHOM. A town with good food and a view of Laos across the Mekhong River NONG KHAI. Main border crossing town at the end of the railway line from Bangkok. NARMTOK THAN THIP. A easy to reach waterfall near the Mekhong River MEKHONG RIVER. Some views of the river which acts as a natural border between Laos and Thailand LOEI. A city with the dubious reputation for having the lowest temperatures in Isaans KHUNMING. MON THAI. A National Park with interesting rock formations KHOSUM PISAI. Monkey sanctuary with rare Golden Monkeys who will eat from your hand KHON KAEN CITY. Administrative capital of Isaans and a good base for touring the region. A very friendly city with many facilities, good shopping and an annual Silk Festival. (A good place to live too!)  KOK SA-NGA. King Cobra Village Close to Khon Kaen which has cobra wrestling SAVANNAKHET. Laos City at the eastern border crossing with Laos WARNING SAKHON NAKHON PROVINCE. A rest area between Udon Thani and Sakhon Nakhon with Dinosaur Statues and a panoramic view across the north of the province. SAKHON NAKHON PROVINCE WAT PRA MAHA A beautiful Wat in Roi-et Province NARMTOK THUM PRA. An interesting waterfall in the Phu Pha Thoep National Park NAKHOM PHANOM. A pleasant town on the Mekhong River with great seafood MUKDAHAN. A border town with Immigration Department facilities PHU PHA THOEP. The National Park near Mukdahan - also signposted as Mukdahan National Park KALASIN. Dinosaur remains near Kalasin SRT. State Railways of Thailand SRT. State Railways of Thailand PHUA NOI. An ancient temple, (from around 1000AD),  with interesting carvings PHI MAI VILLAGE. A museum village with a huge banyan tree nearby. MAHA SARAKHAM. A friendly University town which had one of the earliest universities in Thailand and the town that was my first introduction to Isaans NARMTOK PHU LA OH. A waterfall with easy access and food available, on the road between Si Sa Ket and Phra Wiharn PRASAT KHAO PHRA WIHARN. A national park near Si Sa Ket, with a high cliff overlooking Cambodia and  Wat Phra Wiharn just over the Cambodian border.
