About 12km South of Mukdahan is the Phu Pha Thoep National Park,(also signed as Mukdahan National Park).
It has some amazing rock formations well worth walking to see.
As with all Thai National Parks there are two different admission charges - one for Thai Nationals and one for foreigners. This seems to be a perfectly reasonable system even to this cantankerous old Brit.
On my visit there were several coach parties of school-children learning about their environment accompanied by many genuinely enthusiastic teachers. Probably one teacher for each 5 or 6 pupils. A far cry from the UK with 1 apathetic teacher for 20 or 30 pupils.After an energetic trek through the park you can sit and enjoy some healthy Thai food at one of the open-air restaurants near the Visitor Centre.
