Phuai Noi Ancient Temple

Phua Noi Ancient Temple

The ancient temple at Phua Noi dates back to the 11th and 12th Centuries and was designed in the Khmer style similar to that of the famous Angkor Wat in Kampucha.

It comprised 3 buildings (prangs) mainly built of sandstone and surrounded by a wall and moat. A raised path gave access to the building, traces of which can be seen today.

Many of the sandstone blocks and lintels carry extremely interesting carvings which can still be very clear seen despite the age and erosion of the stone.

Due to its historical importance, restoration of the temple was begun in 1989 continuing through to 1994.

Flowers are still placed within the buildings by visitors and local people even today (shown in the bottom left-hand photograph).

Ample car parking is available opposite the temple with a peaceful view across a small reservoir (shown in the bottom right-hand photograph).
